Mount Bergisel is located on the southern outskirts of Innsbruck. Its height is 746 meters above sea level.
Mount Bergisel gained its fame back in 1809 thanks to historical battles, when, under the leadership of A. Hofer, Tyrolean peasants liberated the city from French and Bavarian troops 3 times ... In memory of these heroic events, a memorial to Tyrolean freedom fighters was erected near the springboard. Also on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the events on Mount Bergisel, a memorial chapel (1909) was consecrated at the mass grave of the imperial shooters.
The mountain is also famous for the fact that there are Olympic facilities on its slopes: a speed skating rink , a large springboard created for the 1964 Olympics and others. In 2001, designed by architect Zaha Hadid the springboard has been reconstructed, and now it is a single whole of the springboard, cafe and acceleration section.
