The consecration of the first church & Uuml; berwasserkirche took place in December 1040 in the presence of Henry III, twelve bishops and numerous imperial princes. Until 1460, the basilica belonged to a nunnery. According to written documents, the church had three naves, but its appearance is still not known for certain, since no images of the first temple have survived ... In 1071, a massive fire broke out in the building, which completely destroyed the church. During the Second World War, the church was seriously damaged. Restoration work began immediately after the end of the war. The restoration of the building's interior was completed by 1968. In 1972, an organ was installed in the church, and a year later - – new stained glass windows by Valentin Peter Feuerstein. In 1976-1983 a number of restoration works were carried out on the bell tower. The last reconstruction work was carried out in the church in 1998-2001.
