The Alsace Museum is located in one of the quarters of the Old Town and is a magnificent Renaissance building. Oddly enough, but this museum appeared only at the beginning of the 20th century. Several industrialists have expressed interest in creating a museum of Alsatian culture, who decided to create an organization to preserve the cultural memory of the region. In 1902, the organization was created, and the organizers began to actively raise money for the development of the project. 2 years later, in 1904, the very building in which the museum's exhibition halls are located was bought and restored. Interestingly, the founders of the museum traveled around the entire region in search of exhibits , collecting household items and elements of folk clothing, both male and female. Since in Strasbourg at that time there were already several museums dedicated to the history of the city, the age of the exhibits begins from the 18th century. By the 80s, the collection of the museum expanded, now it occupied more than one building, and three standing side by side. In total, today the number of exhibits has exceeded 20 thousand. Here are collected costumes, toys, dishes and much more, which will describe the history of the region. In addition to authentic exhibits, here you can see models of medieval streets of Strasbourg, agricultural farms from different eras, as well as a colorful model of Alsatian vineyards.
