At the turn of the V & ndash; IV centuries BC along the perimeter of the Epipola plateau, a 27-kilometer wall was erected by order of Dionysius the Elder. The fortifications had two parallel walls, built of rectangular limestone blocks, and reached a height of 10 meters and a width of 3 meters. The castle of Castelo Euriale was built on the highest point of the plateau, which had an important strategic location.
