The fortress has a thirty-meter Fata tower, named after its creator. It is the oldest in North Africa. The Fata Tower still serves as a lighthouse. The top of the tower offers a magnificent view of the entire city. One part of the fortress is occupied by the municipal prison, and the other part is occupied by an archaeological museum that displays a variety of ancient finds. The Kasbah Fortress is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a historic building of the medina of Sousse.
