Arch of Augustus in Italy, Rimini resort
Rating: 8,4/10 (800 votes)  Arch of Emperor Augustus is one of the most popular tourist sites in the city. The arch was erected in 27 BC. at the end of the road between the Adriatic coast and Rome. The arch was crowned with a sculptural quadriga, which was made in the form of four horses, ruled by Caesar Octavian Augustus. During the Middle Ages, the arch was used as the southern gate in the fortress walls. At the same time, the quadriga was replaced with a scalloped top. The facade of the arch was decorated with relief medallions with images of the gods – Neptune, Apollo, Minerva and Jupiter.
