Photo and descriptionThe monument to Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin on the banks of the Svisloch River in Minsk was erected in 1999 for the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Russian poet. Pushkin visited Minsk in 1824. He was returning from exile to Mikhailovskoye. In spite of the fact that the state podorozhnaya ordered him not to deviate from the route, his friends persuaded him to come to Minsk. There, at one of the dachas, a game was played, described by Pushkin later in "The Queen of Spades." The most romantic monument to Pushkin was presented to Minsk by the Moscow mayor's office.
