Lake Attersee is located in the popular tourist region of the Salzkammergut. It is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut and of all the Alps in Austria.

The lake area is approximately 46 square kilometers, its length is 20 kilometers, and the width in some places reaches 4 kilometers. The lake is stretched from south to north. The greatest depth - 171 meters.    

Lake Attersee is surrounded by mountains on all sides, thanks to which there is a special microclimate (mild winters and cool summers).   Alpine peaks rise on the southern side of the lake, and alpine foothills on the northern side. To the southeast of the lake lies the Schafberg mountain, which separates Attersee from Lake Wolfgangsee. Another mountain located in the vicinity of the lake - Hollengebirge.  

The water in Utters is clear and clean. It is home to a wide variety of fish.

The wind regime of the lake is favorable for windsurfing and sailing. In addition, tourists can take a boat trip on the ship.  

Small resort villages are located on the shores of the lake: Nussdorf am Attersee, Weireg am Attersee, Seewalchen am Attersee and others. There are no large cities on the coast of the lake.
