Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) A majestic structure of the 15th century, one of the most important historical monuments in France. Surprisingly, the basilica was built in less than a century, the total time of construction took about 60 years. The temple was named in honor of Nicholas the Wonderworker, who is the patron saint of both these lands and all travelers, who were also the regulars of the city – traders from all over the world. During the Second World War, German bombers dropped several bombs on the basilica, which severely damaged most of the structure and stained glass windows. The restoration took almost 40 years, and ended only in the 80s of the XX century. Most of the funds for the restoration work were allocated by the wealthy residents of the city.
