Rating: 8,0/10 (400 votes) Porta Borsari is a monument of ancient Roman architecture. The gate was built as a military outpost in the southern part of the city. Their construction dates back to the 1st century. Nowadays, the structure is the old facade of a building that has not survived, previously used as a garrison barracks, which guarded the main entrance to the city. For the construction of the gate, white stone was used, delivered from the Valpolicella quarries. The gate has three tiers. The first tier consists of two arched openings that served as an entrance gate. The two upper tiers each have six arched openings. On the pediment of the lower tier, you can see an inscription dated to the year 245.
