It is the oldest synagogue in Europe converted to a Catholic church. It used to be the main synagogue of the city. In 1405 she was converted to a Christian church. The temple was abandoned between 1600 and 1701. In the 18th century, it was the seat of a military garrison. At the very beginning of the 19th century, during the occupation by Napoleonic troops, the church was used as a warehouse. The temple was restored only by 1851. It is now a museum. The interior of the former synagogue is divided into five naves by 32 octagonal pillars. These pillars are decorated with capitals. Particular attention should be paid to the ornament decorating the walls, horseshoe arches and wooden coffered ceiling. The cathedral naves end with chapels in the plateresque style. The central chapel is crowned with a dome resting on sails decorated with images of shells.
