This Moorish-style synagogue is located in the western part of the city, in the Jewish quarter.

This synagogue was built in 1356-1357 on money of Pedro the Cruel Samuel ha-Levi – a treasurer and a wealthy Jew. Then she bore his name.

After the Jews were expelled in 1492, the Synagogue lost its religious significance. It was handed over to the Order of Calatrava and turned into a hospital, and a Catholic church was founded in the chapel, called the Church of San Benito.

In the 16th century, the synagogue ceased to be a hospital and completely became the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady. The architecture of the temple is outwardly very simple, but the building is decorated with magnificent ornaments.
