The Goethe House is the most famous building in the city of Weimar. The house was built in 1709 in the Baroque style. Goethe received this building as a gift from Duke Karl August. It was here that the poet spent the last years of his life, creating his new works. After the reunification of Germany, the West Germans made Weimar a place of pilgrimage, mainly because of the Goethe house. Nowadays, everything in the house corresponds to the historical period when the great poet lived here. The walls are decorated with portraits of the writer, and here you can see his scientific and art collections. Particularly noteworthy are the writer's office, the bedroom where he spent the last hours of his life, and the library containing more than five thousand volumes.
