The Chikotine Museum of Japanese Folk Art, located at the top of the Carmel, today displays a collection of several thousand items related to Japanese culture. The museum is the only one of its kind in the Middle East, where concerts of Japanese music and evenings dedicated to ceremonies and holidays of the countries of East Asia are held.

The museum was founded in 1959 at the initiative of Aba Hushi and Felix Tikotin – a collector of Japanese art who donated his collection to the museum.

The museum has about 6 thousand exhibits, which include ceramics, paintings, sketches, reproductions, ornamented books, miniature figurines, etc.

Design showroom is also handpicked in combination with Japanese art. The museum's library contains about 2.5 thousand books and publications on the topic of Japanese culture and Japan itself. The museum conducts activities related to Japanese culture – screenings of films, lectures, Zen meditations, courses on flower patterns, as well as the study of the Japanese language.

An additional three-story wing was added to the museum in 1995, the project of which was developed by Mansfeld – Israeli architect, and Johnson Yoshimura – Japanese architect.
