The Church of St. Augustine is one of the first Renaissance basilicas in Rome. The church is located near Piazza Navona.

The building was built at the expense of the Rouen archbishop in 1483. The building material was marble blocks broken out of the Colosseum.

The temple's peculiar glory is based on the fact that a significant part of the parishioners in the old days were girls and women selling their bodies.   One of them was used for painting The Madonna of Loreto, which made a lot of noise in its time. The painting was done by Caravaggio.

Images of Saints John the Evangelist, Jerome and Augustine are the work of Guercino, the image of the prophet Isaiah was done by Raphael. The Cancer of St. Monica is especially revered among church shrines.
