The Church of St. Louis, built in the second half of the 19th century, is one of the most important Roman Catholic churches in Bulgaria. The church was named after Louis the Ninth of France.

In 1898, a bell tower was added to the church. Five large bells were donated to the church by the Pope.

In 1861, the first organ was installed in the cathedral, which was later replaced by a newer one. In 1931, after a fire, the temple was badly damaged, but over time it was restored. In 1932, the cathedral was officially reopened to parishioners.
