St. Louis Cathedral is located on a hill, near the entrance to the archaeological park of Carthage. It was built in 1890 in the Byzantine-Moorish style. The cathedral was erected under Cardinal Lavigerie in honor of the French king Louis IX saint, who died in these places in 1270 during the siege of Tunisia. He was buried here, and in 1964 he was reburied in Rome.

Until 1965, the Cathedral of St. Louis was the seat of the Archbishop of Carthage.

The cathedral is a large rectangular yellow building with stained glass windows. The walls of the church are decorated with images of the coats of arms of noble European families.
