In 1955, the city administration bought the monastery for an orthopedic center. The complex is located on a hill near the historic center of Bologna. On the territory of the complex there are many buildings, some of which date back to the 4th century. By the decree of Pope Urban the Fifth, Olivetan monks settled here in 1364. In 1430, due to a strong fire, the church was completely destroyed, but soon the construction of a new temple began here, which continued until 1523. The author of the project was Biagio Rosetti, who created the building in the Renaissance style. The marble gate was the creation of Baldassar Peruzzi. There were four side chapels and a presbytery in the church. The monastery complex was built in the 16th century. The former refectory room was decorated by Giorgio Vasari, and the 17th century frescoes have been preserved in the luxurious library. In the 18th century, during the reign of Napoleon, the monastery was transferred to private ownership. At the end of the 19th century, the doors of the complex were open to everyone. A picturesque garden was laid out around the complex, part of which was organized into a vegetable garden. Previously, flower exhibitions were held here.
