Directly behind them is the central park with a monument to Cervantes, made by sculptors Teodoro Anasagasti and Mateo Inurria. There are two high-rise buildings on the square, which were built in 1950 and were the completion of the main city street Gran Via. Both skyscrapers were designed by the Otamendi brothers. Under the square there is a system of tunnels, which represent a transport interchange. These tunnels can be used to walk to Western Park and the Royal Palace. Always, and especially in summer, many tourists and townspeople gather in the square.
