From the south and north it is bordered by workshops, from the west - six Roman temples, and from the east -"Julie's Basilica", built in the time of Augustus. The Agora acquired its modern size and appearance as early as the 4th century BC. During this time, the large South Portico was built. It had 34 Ionian columns inside and 74 Dorian columns outside. Along the back half of this portico are several rooms with wells. It is believed that these could have been taverns, or special accommodations for those who came to the Panhellenic Congress.
