The lake was formed as a result of filling the flat-bottomed crater of an extinct volcano with water. The lake is about 650 meters wide and 900 meters long. The depth of the frame varies from 6 to 10 meters. The lake is fed by underground springs and melting snows of Mount Hermon. The lake is surrounded by apple, pear, peach and other orchards.
