Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Bulgaria, Varna resort
Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes)  The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built as a gift to the city of Paraskeva Nikolau, a Russian citizen who was born in Varna. The construction of the church began in 1859 and finished in 1870. The first divine services of Bulgarian priests began to be held here only in 1906, since until that time the church was considered Greek. In 1906, there was an aggravation of the Greek-Bulgarian relations. The city was supposed to be visited by the Greek Metropolitan Neophytos, but the Bulgarians did not even let him get off the ship. And the next day they"took" the Church of St. Nicholas, and three days later the first Bulgarian service was held here.
