Photo and descriptionThe Church of St. Paraskeva (Bulgarian Sveta Paraskeva Petka) is located in the very center of Varna, at the intersection of General Kolev and Bratya Miladinovi streets. Saint Paraskeva herself Friday, also sometimes called "Bulgarian Friday", is one of the most revered saints in Bulgaria and the Balkan region in general. Unlike many churches in Varna, the Church of St. Paraskeva was not destroyed during the popularity of the pro-communist anti-religious sentiments. In 1928, another building was added to the church. Until 1945, there was a canteen, where the poor, refugee families and orphans could get hot food. This building now houses a baptismal room. In 1973, through the efforts of artists Dimitar Bakalsky, Alexander Sorokin and Sergei Rostovtsev, the walls of the temple were adorned with beautiful paintings.
