The Vice-Consul of Varna, Alexander Rachinsky, asked the Greek Metropolitan to allow the services in this church in the Church Slavonic language, to which the Metropolitan gave his consent. In April 1860, Metropolitan Hilarion Makariopolsky of Tarnovo proclaimed the separation of the Bulgarian Church in Constantinople from Constantinople patriarchy. In response, the angry Greek ruler banned the use of the Slavic language in divine services. Soon a school community was created in Varna, which built a church and a school in the city. The opening of the school took place in July 1862 and the matter remained only with the church. In 1865 the lower floor of the school was converted into a church. Church utensils were brought here from a church located in the village of Nikolaevka. On Shrovetide, the first liturgy was judged in the new church.
