Photo and descriptionAs you know, at the end of the 19th century, an improved version of the "Russian" style is most widespread, numerous supporters of which tried to imitate the architectural features of the 17th century. This time was perceived as the period of the best manifestation of the artistic Russian genius, as well as the formation of Moscow architecture. One of the most popular and unique monuments of this time was the Church of the Transfiguration. Construction work on the construction of the temple began in the summer of August 27, 1889 and continued until 1893. The necessary funds were allocated by the wealthy manufacturer M.N. Garelin. The consecration of the church took place on August 24, 1893. The project of the church was developed by a talented architect from Moscow - Kaminsky Alexander Stepanovich. As for the architectural design of the temple, it is worth noting that the facades of the main volume ended with kokoshniks, and hipped towers were located at the corners. The wedding of the church was carried out using an octagon with five domes on faceted drums. Cornices and platbands, as well as two-tiered kokoshniks and some other architectural components that bring such an elegant look of the temple to life, look especially magnificent. From the west, the church is adjoined by a tent-roofed bell tower, in which 12 bells were originally placed. The temple can be entered through several entrances, highlighted by hipped porches. Most of the decoration details were borrowed from the architectural features of the late 17th century. Near the main entrance to the temple there is a two-story brick house, a parable. The church has two iconostases: one is three-tiered, installed in the very center of the temple, and the other is two-tier, made according to the sketches of Alexander Stepanovich. The icons intended for the iconostasis were painted by the artist from Moscow Ya.I. Ruchkin. In addition, some ancient and especially revered icons from the Garelin's home personal prayer house were transferred to the temple. In the temple there is a lot of wall painting, which was done by the artist I.V. Belousov. When the project of the Transfiguration Cathedral was still being developed, it was designed for seven hundred people living in the village of Rylikha. After the construction of the church, the village was named Preobrazhenskoye and became part of the city of Ivanovo since 1917. Since 1931, the cathedral was used by several Orthodox communities at once, professing renovationist and traditional trends, who moved to the Transfiguration Church from the closed Intercession Church. Soon several more communities moved from the cemetery Church of the Assumption. This use of the temple has constantly led to numerous skirmishes. On May 19, 1940, according to the decision of the regional executive committee, the interior of the church was destroyed. Two years later, the parishioners petitioned for the resumption of the work of the temple and the formation of a new community. On November 17, 1944, services in the Transfiguration Church were resumed again. At this time, the Ivanovo-Shuisk diocese was created, followed by the creation of the Ivanovo-Kineshma diocese. After that, the temple became a cathedral. The side chapels were consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The inherent interior decoration and wall painting were recreated during the end of the Great Patriotic War. The cathedral iconostasis was made gilded in the Baroque style. Today there is a Sunday School at the Transfiguration Cathedral, where free classes are held for children 6-10 years old. Classes are held in the Spiritual and Educational Center, which was formed together with the Church Orthodox Deanery Social Sisterhood. The main purpose of this center is to provide assistance to hospital patients, the elderly and the elderly. It should be noted that spiritual and educational work is carried out in all orphanages in the city of Ivanovo. In addition, educational activities are carried out in many institutes and maternity hospitals.
