Photo and description

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior in the city of Khabarovsk is the third largest church among Orthodox churches in Russia after St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. The golden-domed cathedral is located on the steep bank of the Amur River on Glory Square.

The total height of the temple with crosses is 95 m, which makes it the dominant feature of the city panorama. The cathedral can accommodate more than three thousand people at the same time. The upper hall of the temple can accommodate about two thousand people, and the lower one - up to one and a half thousand parishioners. The upper temple was consecrated in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and the temple located on the lower floor - in honor of the apostle and evangelist Mark.

The blessing for the construction of a new cathedral in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the city of Khabarovsk was given by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II. The laying of the first stone at the foundation of the cathedral took place in 2001. The chief architects were Y. Zhivetyev, N. Prokudin and E. Semenov.

The interior of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior is decorated with frescoes made by a group of talented Moscow artists invited by Bishop Mark of Khabarovsk and Priamursk. The construction of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior was completed in October 2003. The great consecration of the temple took place at the end of 2004

The majestic cathedral with five shining domes was built with funds donated by residents of the region, as well as sponsored funds from city enterprises and organizations. A special contribution to the construction of the cathedral was made by V. Lopatyuk, head of the Amur Prospectors' Artel, for which he was awarded the Order of the Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow, third degree, by the Khabarovsk Bishop Mark. The builders and designers who participated in the construction of this majestic cathedral also received certificates and monetary awards.
