The Church of St. Dimitar of Thessalonica is located at the foot of Mount Trapeznitsa.

According to the legend, during the uprising, two rebels Asen and Peter came to the church for the blessing of the Metropolitan. Shortly before their arrival, an icon of Dimitar Thessalonica miraculously appeared in the altar, who was considered the patron saint of the Byzantines. This was perceived by Metropolitan Basil as a sign from above. The Metropolitan gave his blessing, thanks to which the country became independent again.

Today the temple is a four-pillar one-nave building, a distinctive feature of which is the combination of natural stone and thin brick in the masonry. The asp of the church was not made in the form of a semicircle, as in other temples, but in the form of a pentahedron. The outer wall of the viper was also lined with `` Tyrnovo masonry ''. The interior of the church is a typical Byzantine basilica. The temple is divided into two rooms – for women and for men.

In 1971, during excavations near the Church of Dimitar, the foundations of four monastery buildings were discovered. In the 13th century, during an earthquake, the monastery was destroyed, but two centuries later a new temple was erected here. Over the years, the church has been repeatedly raided by robbers from Kardzhali.

In 1913, after an earthquake, only an adder remained from the temple. The temple was rebuilt at the end of the 20th century.
