Title in English - Aberdeen Art Gallery. Photo & DescriptionAberdeen Art Gallery is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Here are collections of paintings, sculptures and graphics from the 15th century to the present day. In 1873, John Forbes White and several other local art collectors decided to hold a joint exhibition. Thus the idea was born to create a permanent exhibition and found a public art gallery. Architect Alexander Mackenzie built one of the most beautiful Victorian gallery buildings. The central hall of the gallery is decorated with granite columns of different colors - granite was brought both from various deposits in the area and from other places. The gallery was opened in 1885. Most of the exhibits are donated private collections. The city council took over the gallery in 1907. In the 1920s, the War Memorial and Caudray Hall were opened, which hosts exhibitions and concerts. The gallery features works by such masters as Raeburn, Hogarth, Reynolds, and among the masters of the 20th century - Paul Nash, Ben Nicholson and Stanley Spencer. French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists are represented by the works of Monet, Renoir, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. An excellent collection of arts and crafts includes ceramics, costumes, furniture, glass jewelry and more.
