Byzantine Fortress Angelokastro (Castle of Angels) in Greece, Corfu resort
Rating: 8,7/10 (2465 votes)  The ruins of this ancient fortress are located on a rock. In the 13th century, this fortress was followed by enemy ships that could appear at sea. After the collapse of the Byzantine Empire, this castle was an outpost of one Greek Orthodox state. It is still not known who is the founder of the castle. It is believed that this is either the First or the Second Michael the Angel. When the Turks invaded Corfu (1571), the locals hid in this castle, and the conquerors could not take the fortress.
