After the collapse of the Byzantine Empire, this castle was an outpost of one Greek Orthodox state. It is still not known who is the founder of the castle. It is believed that this is either the First or the Second Michael the Angel. When the Turks invaded Corfu (1571), the locals hid in this castle, and the conquerors could not take the fortress.
