Photo and description

Paleokastritsa is a picturesque resort on the island of Corfu, located 26 km northwest of the capital of the same name. Previously, Paleokastritsa was an independent municipality of the Ionian Islands, but since 2011 it has been an administrative unit of the city of Corfu. The territory of Paleokastritsa stretches along the coastline of the island of Corfu, washed by the Adriatic Sea, and covers an area of 48.379 sq. Km. As of 2001, Paleokastritsa has a population of 4395 and is considered the pearl of Corfu. Not far from Paleokastritsa is the famous fortress of the island of Angelokastro (one of the most important architectural monuments of the Byzantine era in Greece).

The monastery of the Virgin Mary is located in Paleokastitsa. The structure that we see today dates back to the 16-18 centuries, but the first building on this site was founded in 1225 and was an ancient fortress. It was destroyed in 1403, but restored again in 1469. In 1537 the fortress was completely destroyed by the Turks, and in 1572 a monastery was built, which has survived to this day, part of which was completed in 1722. Today, the monastery building houses the Museum, which displays ancient Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons.

In the Paleokastritsa area you will find beautiful picturesque bays formed by rocky capes and excellent sandy and pebble beaches with crystal clear waters.

A variety of restaurants and cozy seaside taverns with stunning panoramic views of the bay will allow you to relax and enjoy traditional Greek cuisine. Resting in Paleokastritsa, you can visit all the famous sights of the island of Corfu. You can stay comfortably in a hotel or in a cozy apartment.
