According to legend, in the 16th century, during the reign of Rudolf II, a terrible plague epidemic came to the Czech Republic. The emperor turned to Saint Roch and asked to rid the city of the plague. His prayers were answered and the epidemic subsided. As a token of gratitude, the emperor built a church on the territory of the Strahov Monastery, which he dedicated to this saint.
