Eastern Peak Temple in China, Beijing Resort

This Taoist temple is dedicated to the Lord of Mount Taishan, the sacred mountain of Taoism. The temple is located in Chaoyang District. It is the largest temple of the Zhengidao Taoist school in Northern China.

The Eastern Peak Temple was built in 1319. The money for its construction was collected by the official Zhang Lusun. After the start of construction, Zhang Lusun, died, but the construction was continued by his disciple Quanjie. In 1322, the main hall and the main entrance to the temple were built.

In 1447, the temple was restored and acquired its present name. It was rebuilt in 1698 and 1761. In the 20th century, the temple was turned first into a school, then into an administrative building,   and then into a residential building. In 1996 it was declared a national treasure, and in 2002 it was restored.

The area of the temple complex is 4.7 hectares. This area has three courtyards and 376 rooms.
