The Kuopio Orthodox Church Museum is one of the most significant ecclesiastical museums in Western Europe. It is subordinate to the Finnish Orthodox church government and has the status of a state one. The museum was founded in 1957, the building was built in 1969. The exposition of the museum includes icons, liturgical vestments, church utensils brought from the Valaam and Konevets monasteries. Most of the museum's collection belongs to the 18th-19th centuries, and the oldest things are from the Middle Ages. Many exhibits came to the museum during World War II.
