Akko Fortress in Israel, Akko Resort
Rating: 8,9/10 (6054 votes)  The city fortress is located in the north of old Akko. Today the fortress is considered one of the most impressive structures in the city. The fortress was built on the ruins of the old Hospitaller monastery in 1750, by order of Dahar el-Omar – ruler of Akko. The fortress is 40 meters high. It mainly includes buildings from the Ottoman period. Initially, the fortress served as a palace for the rulers of the city, it also housed barracks and weapons depots. In the future, the fortress was used as a prison, in which such famous people as Zeev Jabotinsky were imprisoned – the creator of the legion of the Jews, and Baha'u'llah – founder of the Baha'i religion.
