The Alley of Honor is one of the iconic sights of Baku. It is located in the upland part of the city not far from the famous Towers of Fire, some distance from the main part of the Upland Park.

The alley for the burial of the most significant and famous people of Azerbaijan was created in August 1948 after the order issued by the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR. At the same time, its construction began. Basically, prominent figures of science, culture, art and literature are buried on the Alley, as well as persons who have the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for courage and courage shown in battles during the Second World War, persons who held high government posts during the years of Soviet power , and people of labor who have distinguished themselves in different sectors of the economy. In addition, old Bolsheviks, Soviet and party workers who took an active part in the establishment of Soviet power are buried in the alley.

According to the list attached to the order, the graves of such prominent figures of culture and literature as D. Mammadgulizade, Najaf bey Vezirov, Suleiman Sani Akhundov, Abdurragim bey Akhverdiev, Hasan bey Zardabi, G. Arablinsky were to be transferred to the Alley , A. Nazmi, Jabbar Garyagdi oglu, G. Sarabskiy, R. Mustafayev, A. Azimzadeh and to establish their tombstones. In accordance with this order, the gravestones were also to be installed by M.V. Vidadi in Gazakh, M.A. Sabiru and S.A. Shirvani in Shamakhi.

Famous persons who died after the creation of the Alley, as a rule, were interred here. As a result, the Alley of Honorary Burials from time to time became a place of national pilgrimage. On December 15, 2003, Heydar Aliyev was buried in the Alley of Honor. Muslim Magomayev and other celebrities are buried here.
