Photo and description

The country palace of King Jan III Sobieski in Wilanow is located almost on the border of Warsaw. The village of Miljanovo was bought by Jan III Sobieski in order to move his summer residence there. There he built a palace, which he named Villa Nova, which eventually became Wilanow. The owners changed in the palace, and in 1799 Stanislav Kostka Pototsky settled here. This outstanding connoisseur of art did a lot to decorate the palace and enlarged its art collections. The palace and park ensemble was plundered and partially destroyed in 1945, but restorers returned it to its original appearance.
