Rating: 8,8/10 (5864 votes)  The Jaffa Gate also has other names: Bab al-Khalil and the Hebron Gate. It is the only gateway to the Old City facing the Mediterranean, west. Jaffa Gate is built in 1538 by order of the Ottoman ruler Suleiman I the Magnificent. They are located at the intersection of two major Jerusalem roads: the Western one, which leads to the port of Jaffa, and the Southern one, heading to the cities of Bethlehem and Hebron. A clock tower was built on the roof of the Jaffa Gate in 1907, but ten years later, during the British occupation, it was destroyed. Jaffa Gate is a popular venue for various cultural events.
