Due to the intense mountain activity, the city of Kutna Hora often lacked drinking water. A wooden pipeline was laid to supply water from the surroundings to the city.

In 1493-1495, the architect Matej Reisek built a twelve-sided prism around one of the reservoirs, which he decorated with a rich carved pattern. The prism is four meters high.

Today this monument is one of the pearls of late Gothic architecture. The fountain is also a unique technical structure.
