Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionSt. Archangel Michael in Veliki Preslav is located in a small beautiful park in the city center. The facade of the building is a miniature part of the right side of the St. Sophia church-monument of St. Alexander Nevsky. The foundation of the church was laid in 1908, but in 1912-1913, during the Balkan War, construction was suspended. Then the work was gradually resumed, but another war prevented - the First World War and the lack of funds provoked by it for the further construction of the church. Residents of Veliki Preslav began to collect money on their own, using any means - various types of donations, collecting signatures under petitions, and even caroling. Such actions extended not only to the city, but also to the surrounding villages. Any building material was accepted, and volunteer labor was often used in construction. In 1930, the construction of the church was completed, and in 1931 it was consecrated by Metropolitan Joseph. From this point on, services begin in the church. The work on painting the temple under the guidance of Professor Nikolai Rostovtsev was completed in 1951. Many of the church's icons are part of the history of Veliki Preslav and date back to the time of Tsar Boris I and the establishment of Orthodoxy as the state religion in Bulgaria. In 1952, a new carved iconostasis was created by a group of craftsmen headed by Professor Pyotr Kushlev. Residents of Veliki Preslav also raised funds for this work. The Church is active. Temple Feast - November 8. Now again it is planned to raise funds for the reconstruction of the temple, and also for the construction of the bell tower.
