The Moscow theater "Workshop PN Fomenko" is located on the Taras Shevchenko Embankment. The theater was founded in 1993. The corresponding decree was issued by the then mayor of Moscow. But the creators themselves consider July 1988 to be the date of birth of their theater. It was then that Pyotr Fomenko selected the first students to his group. It was the educational workshop of Peter Fomenko at GITIS, at the directing department. The first release took place in 1993. The graduates of the training workshop formed the basis of the new theater troupe. Today the theater troupe employs three generations of Fomenko workshop graduates.

At first, the theater was located on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, in the building of the Kiev cinema. In 1997 two small auditoriums were transferred to the theater. They could accommodate no more than a hundred spectators. To watch the play it was necessary to sign up several months in advance.

In 2005, the Moscow government, together with VTB Bank, began construction of a new building for the Fomenko Theater. A place was chosen on a high slope, on the Taras Shevchenko embankment. The theater building is designed in a modern style. Outside, it was faced with natural stone and decorated with metal panels. There is a lawn with a flower garden on the roof of the theater. A picturesque view of the Moskva River opens from there.

The internal structure and equipment of the theater is made in accordance with the requirements of Pyotr Fomenko. The theater has two auditoriums and two stages. The Great Hall has 450 seats. The arrangement of the hall is classical: parterre, amphitheater and boxes. The stage can be transformed according to the needs of the productions. The Small Hall has two tiers. The hall is equipped with special mechanisms. They allow you to change the dimensions of the hall and its proportions. Lift and trigger mechanisms can open the hall into space. Towards the embankment of Moscow - the river and the "Moscow - City" complex.

The opening of the theater "Workshop P. N. Fomenko" took place in January 2008 with the play "Bride" by A. Ostrovsky.

Today's playbill offers audiences a wide repertoire. The repertoire is based on performances created in recent years. First of all, Pyotr Fomenko's performances: “One absolutely happy village” (after B. Vakhtin). "War and Peace. The beginning of the novel. Scenes "," Family Happiness "(based on the prose of L. Tolstoy). "Triptych" (based on the works of A. Pushkin). For these performances in 2010 the Theater-Workshop of P. N. Fomenko was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation.

At the Fomenko Theater, such directors as Evgeny Kamenkovich, Ivan Popovski, Viktor Ryzhakov staged performances. In 2007, a group of directors and actors was formed at the theater, whose goal was to continue their professional training with Petr Fomenko. After three years of such an internship, 14 new actors joined the troupe of the theater. In 2010, a new recruitment took place. Young actors are trained by Fomenko. They actively participate in the rehearsal process and in the performances of the Fomenko Workshop.

The theater's performances have won international awards many times. The theater leads an active touring life. His performances are shown in the cities of Russia and abroad.
