The Charlottenburg Palace was built as the summer residence of the wife of Elector Frederick III, Sophia-Charlotte. Construction work began in 1695. Under Frederick the Great, the palace was expanded and rebuilt. Later, the Small Palace Theater and the Belvedere tea house were built. In front of the palace there is an equestrian monument to Frederick the Great by Andreas Schluter.
