The title in English is The Munch Museum. Photo and descriptionThe Munch Museum is the largest museum and cultural center in the Norwegian capital, built in 1963 by Gunnar Fogner and Elnar Mikelbast on the centenary of the birth of the Norwegian expressionist painter and graphic artist Edward Munch. His collection includes more than 1000 paintings, 4500 drawings and watercolors, 1800 prints, 6 sculptures and some personal belongings bequeathed to the museum after his death in January 1944. The museum also serves as a research center for the study of the great Munch. A special place in the artist's work is occupied by the self-portraits written by him - from a handsome but gloomy young man to an old man still full of strength. This portrait gallery allows you to trace the entire life of Edvard Munch. After an armed robbery in August 2004, the paintings stolen from the museum were returned to the site only two years later. Some of them had to be restored because they were noticeably damaged. The museum exhibition is constantly updated, and since the 1990s. it hosts concerts and documentaries in Norwegian and English. The Munch Museum regularly exhibits some of the exposition in other museums.
