Photo and description

The main street, Karl Johans gate, stretches from east to west from the Eastern Railway Station to the Royal Palace. This is the most famous shopping street in the city with many street vendors, artists, musicians, actors and, of course, tourists from all over the world.

Almost all the buildings of this street were built in the 20-50s of the XIX century according to the project royal architect H.D.F. Linstow, who dreamed of turning it into the Norwegian Champs Elysees. Next to the building of the University there is the Historical and Ethnographic Museum and the National Gallery, which displays the largest collection of paintings by Norwegian artists, including the work of Edvard Munch.

The building of the Royal Palace was built in the first half of the 19th century in the style of classicism ... The palace stands on a small hill in the middle of the park, and in front of it is a statue of King Karl Johan XIV. There is another interesting museum nearby - the museum-apartment of G. Ibsen.

St. Olawa attracts visitors with its baroque altars, stained glass windows and unusual paintings on the ceiling and vaults. There is a monument to King Christian IV in front of the Cathedral on the Market Square.
