Church of the Intercession description and photos - Russia - Moscow region: Volokolamsk. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Intercession Church, located near the Kremlin, was once the Assumption Cathedral of the abolished Varvarinsky Monastery. The one-domed church, built in 1695 by order of the mother of Peter the Great, Tsarina Natalya Kirillovna, is distinguished by clear forms and modest decor. The church was rebuilt many times. The last annex is a stone one-domed bell tower. The temple itself as a whole has retained its original decor in the spirit of Moscow Baroque; the windows are framed by platbands with torn tops. The interior of the church contains icons of the 18th century and a wooden sculpture of Nikola Mozhaisky.
