Photo and description

The Vysotsky monastery was founded in 1374 by the Monk Sergius of Radonezh and Prince Vladimir Andreevich the Brave. In 1571, the Crimean Tatars burned down the monastery, but the monastery was restored with donations from the Naryshkin family. The mother of Peter I, Tsarina Natalya Kirillovna Naryshkina, often came here. The Vysotsk monastery experienced some decline in the 18th century, but by the 19th century. she reached her prime and fame. In the 1920s. the monastery was closed. The wall and the Church of All Saints were partially destroyed.

In the center of the monastery stands the Conception Cathedral, erected on a high basement and surrounded by two-tiered arched galleries. the northern side of the Conception Cathedral, at the very end of the gallery there is a small adjoining church of the Nativity of the Virgin. This temple, it is not known when and by whom it was built, existed already at the end of the 16th century.

Next to the cathedral there is a former refectory with the Intercession Church, to which the Church of the Praise of the Virgin was added in the 19th century. Here is one of the relics of the monastery - the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos `` The Inexhaustible Chalice '', attracting hundreds of pilgrims from Russia and other countries of the world.

The modern three-tiered bell tower in the monastery was built around 1840 to replace the old one, which had fallen into disrepair and collapsed. Soon then, in its second tier, a temple was built in the name of the Three Great Hierarchs and Ecumenical Teachers Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom.
