Church of the Nativity of the Virgin description and photos - Russia - Moscow region: Volokolamsk. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, dating from 1537, served as the cathedral of the Vozmitsky monastery in Volokolamsk. The monastery was abolished, but the church has survived to this day. The four-pillar cross-domed temple with a three-apse altar was originally crowned with three chapters. Two chapters above the eastern corners of the building were dismantled in 1792, at the same time a four-pitched roof was arranged. The facades of the temple are dismembered with shoulder blades and completed with zakomars. The entrances to the church are decorated with perspective portals. Fragments of 16th century frescoes have been preserved in the interior of the church - in the altar and on the pillars. From the west, the church is adjoined by a refectory and a three-tiered hipped-roof bell tower. The decoration of these outbuildings is rather modest, the windows are framed by the same architraves with triangular pediments.
