Photo and description

The Church of the Holy Archangels Gabriel and Michael is an inactive Orthodox church located in the town of Nessebar. Today it is in a dilapidated state and is protected by UNESCO. Also, the temple is included in the list of hundreds of national tourist sites in Bulgaria.

The choice of saints for the patronage of the church is not accidental: the Archangels Gabriel and Michael are among the seven highest angelic spirits. As a rule, both are depicted in the Deesis order on the left and right sides of the Savior. Michael is the main Archangel, while Gabriel acts as the guardian of paradise and rules over the angels, who, in turn, help people.

The construction of the church was completed in the 13th century. The temple has one nave, a narthex and a bell tower. The dimensions of the church are 13.90 by 5, 30 meters. The church is crowned with a large dome, and in the western part of the building there was a square tower, erected directly above the narthex. In the western part of the wall, a hidden stone staircase was discovered, which led to the tower. The temple can be accessed through three doors - one in the north and two in the narthex. The church narthex also has two exits - south and north.

The facades of the church are decorated with stone and brick vaulted niches. In the east, the church ends with three oversized apses, in which polyhedral holes have been discovered. They are all richly decorated.
