Photo and descriptionThe Ivanovo Regional Art Museum is located in the historical center of Ivanovo, at Lenin Avenue, 33. This is a rare type of provincial Russian museum, the potential of the collections of which includes valuable cultural objects of different peoples, countries, is phenomenal : starting from the ancient Egyptian monuments of the 21st century BC and ending with contemporary art. In its collection there are more than 40 thousand exhibits. It is one of the largest in the Central region of Russia. The museum building is a two-story building, built in the 1880s of red brick in the eclectic style (architects P. Troitsky and V. Sikorsky) to house a real school , as well as a school of colorists. The Art Museum in Ivanovo is quite young. The decision to create a museum by transferring part of the art treasures from the Ivanovo Museum of Local Lore was made in 1959. Transferred in the 1920s-1930s by the State Museum Fund, the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, exhibits, fragments of D.G. Burylin determine the originality and prestige of the museum collection. Monuments of art and culture of the Ancient World - this is a collection that describes the earliest period of history. Here are presented sculptural images that are associated with the religion of the ancient Egyptians: the patron saint of the pharaohs and the sun god Amon, Isis with Horus, Osiris, the goddess Bastet in a cat image, ushabti figurines, sacred scarab beetles. The mummy of an Egyptian woman of a noble family dating back to the 1st millennium BC, which is rare in the Russian province, evokes surprise and delight among the museum visitors. and the painted sarcophagus of the shield-bearer Ankh-efa. Ancient civilization is represented by ancient Greek ceramics and high quality vase paintings (pelicas, amphorae, cups, oinochoi, crater and others), ancient Roman terracotta, Pompeian mosaics and almost weightless thinnest vessels made of blown glass, tombstones, copies and originals with Roman sculptural portraits. The collection of ancient Russian art is, first of all, icons, religious objects made of wood, fabric, bone, precious metals, copper-cast church plastic, liturgical old printed books, popular prints and engravings of religious content, temple round sculpture, bas-reliefs. The exposition of the museum acquaints visitors with the leading schools of icon painting of the 16-19 centuries: Stroganov, Moscow, Northern letters, Vladimir-Suzdal region, Volga region. The relics that have no price are the double-sided external icon "The Mother of God of Shuiskaya-Smolensk and Nikola", the restrained ascetic headpiece "Deesis", luxuriously decorated with ornaments "The Old Testament Trinity in Acts" in Palekh writing, the touching provincial temple icon "The Prudent Robber". Fragments of the fresco iconostasis brought from the destroyed Cathedral of the Annunciation in Yuryevets were recognized as the best in the country. Presumably, the work of the masters who created this iconostasis was supervised by Kirill Ulanov, the empowered Tsarist icon painter of the Armory Chamber. The museum's particular pride is the collection of Russian art from the 18th and early 20th centuries. A large collection, which includes more than 500 original paintings, makes it possible to trace the entire logic of the development of Russian art, its styles, trends, directions - from parsuna and provincial portrait to styles of symbolism and modernity.
