Photo and description

The Central Synagogue is the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world, after the Emmanuel Synagogue in New York. It was built in 1859 in the Moorish-Byzantine style by the Austrian architect Ludwig Foerster. The building was partially destroyed during the Second World War, but later restored to its original splendor.
