Photo and description

The Engstligen Falls reaches an altitude of 600 meters and is considered the second largest of all Swiss falls. Numerous streams flow down from the mountains to unite and cascade in a double cascade into the Engstligen Valley. Since 1948, the waterfall has been listed as a national monument and is one of the most colorful sights in Switzerland.

The most convenient way to get to the waterfall is by bus from the village of Adelboden, but you can also go hiking. In summer, a hiking trail is open here, starting at the Unter dem Birg parking lot and going along the water channel all the way to Engstligen. The hike usually takes about an hour and a half and from habit may seem a little difficult, but the difficulties are immediately forgotten, when the indescribable beauty of the majestic nature opens up to the eyes of travelers. And in winter, it is most convenient to admire the waterfall from the cabin of the cable car leading to the mountains. In the warm season, many people prefer, having reached the top, to go down the path, which is so comfortable that even small children can go down it without any difficulty. For this reason, the Engstligen Falls are perfect for family outings. There, next to the waterfall, there is the Cheligang climbing trail, widely known for its simplicity, beautiful views and the ability to get under the falling water jets.

Between Unther dem Birg and Engstligenalp, there is a small platform, climbing on which you can almost touch the waterfall with your hand, enjoy the power of its roar, while remaining safe.

The air around the waterfall is so saturated with water that you can literally drink it. And the numerous benches installed in the vicinity invite you to take a short break, to get enough of the energy of the water falling from the mountains.
